National Parole, Probation, and Community Corrections Officers’ Week
July 13 – 19, 2008
On behalf of the Oregon Department of Corrections, it is a great honor that I acknowledge Oregon’s parole and probation officers for your dedication, devotion, and hard work.
As we celebrate Probation, Parole, and Community Corrections Officers’ Week, we celebrate over 100 years of community corrections as a profession. Let us keep in mind the many of you who have the task of making our communities a better place for everyone. Each day you continue to make a difference through mentoring, interventions, rewards, sanctioning, partnerships with other agencies and community groups, and by assisting offenders in their efforts towards rebuilding and reshaping their lives.
Community corrections practitioners continue to maintain the highest standards of professionalism while respecting the dignity, cultural diversity and human rights of all persons. The challenges you face are tremendous, yet you continue to make a difference. You are active in your community, networking between community leaders, criminal justice partners, victim’s rights advocates, county agencies, and offenders. You work with families, children, and spouses. All of this is done in an effort to ensure public safety, and you do this with dignity and professionalism. You are dedicated, hard-working individuals who are truly concerned about making a difference in our communities.
This week is a time for Oregon and the nation to pause and thank you for the work you do, and reflect on the many contributions you make. Every day you assist Oregon in providing valuable services to the people of Oregon, and yet, very rarely do you receive thanks for the risks you take, the dedication you give, and the work that you do. You make a difference in the people’s lives, a difference in the safety of your communities, and a difference in Oregon. Your work is diverse and rewarding; challenging and growth-producing, and the manner in which you meet your every day challenges is remarkable.
It is with great pleasure that I thank you for the work that you do and for the professionalism you display and uphold. Although the Department of Corrections always acknowledges the work that you do, it is with a special sense of pride that this week I extend to you best wishes on behalf of the Department of Corrections.
