National Correctional Employees Week
Governor's Proclamation
On April 5 Governor Kulongoski proclaimed May 3-9, 2009 to be National Correctional Employees Week, recognizing that:

  • The Oregon Department of Corrections is a vital component of the state's criminal justice system.
  • Correctional employees are highly trained, committed and productive members of Oregon's workforce.
  • Correctional employees carry out the Department's mission, values and goals with enthusiasm, innovation and pride.
  • Correctional employees implement the Oregon Accountability Model by individually modeling pro-social behavior while holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior.

Directors' Acknowledgement
National Correctional Employees Week

It is with great pride that we honor all of our staff during National Correctional Employees Week, May 3 – 9.

DOC employees perform a valuable and often unrecognized service to the citizens of Oregon. They represent some of the finest public safety officials in the state and beyond.

No matter what their individual responsibility is – corrections officer, counselor, maintenance worker, education provider, medical or mental health professional, support staff, parole and probation officer, manager, administrator or otherwise – they play an important role in Oregon’s public safety system.

Through their dedication and work to fulfill our mission and implement the Oregon Accountability Model, they keep our prisons safe and operational, and help offenders prepare to become productive, law-abiding members of society. They are exemplary stewards of public safety and accountability.

To all of our valued employees -

For all that you do for DOC, the inmates in our custody and the citizens of Oregon, we are deeply appreciative, grateful and proud to have the opportunity to share in the recognition of your efforts. We are proud of what you do.

With sincere thanks,
